About Me

Do the odd hike and bike ride. Take the odd photo.

After discovering a passion for the outdoors in my 20's, I eventually got to a point where my 2MP phone camera just wasn't cutting it anymore, and thanks to a very good friend who encouraged me to get a DSLR, here we are 50,000 shots later. I dabbled with black and white film photography as a university student (not very well mind), and after signing up to what seems like a million beginner photography courses I think now after all these years I have some sort of idea about how to work a camera. Always learning though and always think of myself as a beginner.

I've had some amazing opportunities to experience and photograph the outdoors in New Zealand. As a bikepacker I have done the 2016 & 2018 Tour Aotearoa Brevets, the Kopiko and the Sounds to Sounds. I have done a fair bit of hiking including the Kepler, Abel Tasman, Paparoa, Routeburn, Milford and Tongairo Northern Circuit Great Walks. I once hiked the length of Christchurch Port Hills on the longest night of the year. I was also one of the first people to complete the entire Christchurch 360 Trail a week before it officially opened. I hiked to Everest Base Camp and back, cycled from Christchurch to Wanaka over the Lindis, my favourite place on this planet is Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and I love spotting a circus of Kea out in the wild.

The last few years I have dabbled in sport and astrophotography and I recently finished a portrait photography course so I hope to add more of that to my portfolio. Currently experimenting with ICM Photography (Intentional Camera Movement) and absolutely love it.

Gear I use: Nikon D3400, my favourite lense is the 35mm, but you will often see me with the trusty 18-140mm, GoPro Hero 9, assorted film cameras, DJI Spark Drone.

Prolific quoter of "The Office" (the UK version) Flight of the Conchords and Father Ted.

Dog Mum of Benson and Chloe.

Sounds to Sounds Book

Sounds to Sounds is an inspirational coffee table book that showcases the 1500-kilometre bikepacking journey from Marlborough Sounds to Milford Sound.

I was incredibly lucky to take part in the very first edition of the event and a couple of my photos (including a very, very rare photo OF me) feature in the amazing book written by Jonathan Kennett and Bronwen Wall.

More info on the book here.

Tour Aotearoa 2018

After riding the Tour Aotearoa in 2016, I went back and did it again in 2018 and took a decent camera along. Quite often you meet amazing people along the way who give you help and advice and as my way to say thanks to them I collated my photos with a bit of the story of how my trip went and sent them all a copy. Completely self-published, there are about 100 copies of this book floating around out there and I still get a lot of requests for it, I don't even have a copy of it myself! It's still available in book form and ebook over on Blurb.

She Adventures Podcast

A few years ago I talked about the Tour Aotearoa and other things adventure on the She Adventures Podcast with Senka Radonich. You can listen to it here.
